"Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire."
The Profound Beauty of the Dua: رَبَّنَاَ آَتِنَا فِي ٱلْدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي ٱلْاَخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلْنَارِ
The dua رَبَّنَاَ آَتِنَا فِي ٱلْدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي ٱلْاَخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلْنَارِ is special in Islamic prayers. It means "Our Lord, give us good things in this life and the next, and protect us from the Fire." This prayer is about living a balanced life, wanting good things in the world and a good afterlife.
The Dual Dimensions of Goodness
Worldly Goodness (Hasanah in Dunya): This part asks for good things in this life. It's about health, wealth, happiness, and success in right ways. It shows the value of a good life on Earth, where one's needs are met righteously.
Eternal Goodness (Hasanah in Akhirah): The dua then looks to the afterlife, asking for eternal rewards. It's about wanting to be in Paradise, pleasing Allah, and enjoying eternal bliss. It reminds us that our journey doesn't stop with earthly success but continues into eternity.
The Pursuit of Balance
This dua shows Islam's balanced way of life. It teaches to live in harmony, not neglecting either the material or spiritual world. It advises striving for a good life now while keeping an eye on the future.
A Shield from the Fire
The dua's last part, وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلْنَارِ, asks for protection from Hellfire. It shows the believer's fear of their actions' consequences and the need for Allah's mercy. It's about being careful with our deeds to avoid punishment forever.
Universality and Timelessness
This dua is powerful because it's for everyone. It's prayed by all believers, in all situations. Its simple yet deep meaning helps guide us to live a balanced, meaningful life.
